Buyers
A buyer's agent who knows the neighborhoods you're eyeing, spots overpriced listings and fights for you in multiple-offer situations.
Find my agent →The Old Fourth Ward fills the blocks between Huron Street, Fifth Avenue, Detroit Street, Glen Avenue and the Huron River, just northeast of downtown. Many of its 19th-century houses have been divided into apartments over the years, while others remain single homes. A partner agent who knows the area can tell an owner-occupied house from a converted rental and price each one fairly.
Pick one to get started. It only takes a minute.
Local know-how
Most of the area falls in the Old Fourth Ward Historic District, established in 1983. Windows, porches, siding and additions need city approval, so ask the seller what work was permitted.
Many homes were split into apartments. Check that egress, fire separation, wiring and the number of units match city records, especially if you plan to convert back to a single home.
If a house is rented, Ann Arbor requires a rental Certificate of Compliance and periodic inspections. Ask for the inspection history and plan for your own registration if you'll keep tenants.
