Buyers
A buyer's agent who knows the neighborhoods you're eyeing, spots overpriced listings and fights for you in multiple-offer situations.
Find my agent →West of Main Street, the Old West Side is a city historic district and National Register district of small two-story frame houses on tree-lined streets, most built from the 1860s through World War I. Front-gabled roofs and pillared porches are everywhere. A partner agent who knows the district can explain what you can change, what you can't, and how that shows up in price.
Pick one to get started. It only takes a minute.

Local know-how
The Old West Side is a local historic district, so changes like windows, siding, porches, roofs and additions go through the Historic District Commission. Ask what's been approved before and budget time for review.
Many homes here are modest in size on narrow lots, so additions and garages can be limited by both zoning and district rules. Confirm what's possible before you pay for space you plan to build.
Most homes are wood frame from the late 1800s. Have an inspector check foundations, the sewer lateral, wiring and any lead paint, and expect a lead disclosure on homes built before 1978.
